Message from the Founder: Being born and raised in Southern California and having the ability to visit the coast, I truly appreciate the ocean and it’s marine life. Anyone who has ever lived near or traveled to or even seen pictures of California’s coast, can easily agree that it is really a special place. Everyday dolphins can be seen swimming along the horizon, seals can be heard from the rocks, surfers can enjoy the waves, and beach goers can have a relaxing day with friends and family. Not just California’s coast, of course, but any coast and the ocean in general. It is an amazing thing. Though, too many times, if not each time, I have been at the beach and have noticed trash. Food wrappers, cigarette butts, plastic bags, tangled fishing line - you name it! I would always wonder where it all came from? How large is the problem? Is there really an “island” of trash the size of Texas floating in the Pacific (when I thought it was just a myth or a ridiculous exaggeration)? Is the trash found on the sand from a previous beach goer or did it wash up? How harmful are these items of trash to the marine life and water quality? Upon research I found the answers, and I was shocked. Unfortunately, it is a huge problem and it is growing at an alarming rate! Millions of sea birds and marine life (from sea turtles to whales) are ultimately killed due to entanglement or ingestion of trash. Thousands of beaches are closed due to the poor and hazardous water quality. Billions of items of trash are floating in our ocean. The more I learned about trash and varies forms of pollution that end up the ocean the more I knew that something had to be done. Thus - Seafoam Project was created! The ocean and it’s life is fragile, and we need to protect it - and you can help! The purpose of Seafoam Project is to protect, preserve, and restore our oceans. Joining in our cause, you can make a positive impact. The ocean needs our help on a daily basis and it is time to get involved and take action! I encourage you to take the time and check out our “Education” page and learn more about the importance of our cause.
