Disappearing Wetlands:

In California, population and associated coastal development have caused the loss of over 90% of our wetlands. Our remaining wetlands continue to be threatened by land deals, population growth, pollution, and non-native species of plants and animals.
Wetlands are the most productive ecosystems on earth. Wetlands are home to fish, mammals, insects, birds, amphibians, and reptiles - and they all depend on wetlands for survival. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, more than one-third of United States’ threatened and endangered species live only in wetlands, and nearly half use wetlands at some point in their lives.
Wetlands not only give life to many species of animals, but they also serve as a buffer from wave erosion, protect against flooding, and filter toxic run-off as it enters the ocean.
Saving our wetlands from disappearing is a matter that needs urgent attention. Seafoam Project Volunteers are working towards the restoration of existing wetlands - we hope you will join us!
